Bruce Graham’s My Stampede Story
Bruce Graham, president and chief executive of Calgary Economic Development, experienced his first Stampede in 2003, about a month after he moved from Ontario.
"I remember being totally blown away by the experience and feeling like a deer in the headlights through my whole first Stampede and being incredibly exhausted at the end of it all," says Graham.
"There was so much going on. So much to do. And so little time to fit it all in. I was sleep deprived."
In his first-year experience, he was invited to the First Energy rodeo in Millarville which is a participation event. He was out in the mud, covered head-totoe.
"Cleaning myself with wetnaps," he says.
"That was quite an amazing experience . . . You're not a Canadian until you've experienced the Calgary Stampede."
