A True Stampede Baby

It was Saturday, July 9, 1977 and a rainy day. I was at the grounds with my then husband and was extremely pregnant.

We were walking through the barns when I began to go into labor. I will never forget the smell of the barns and the crowds of people in the barns because of the rain. We had to walk all the way to the south exit. Of course, we had parked many blocks away as the husband thought that walking would be good for me.

We exited at the south gates and I waited for him to go get the car with my contractions coming 7-8 minutes apart. It was pouring rain; I was in labor and standing in the mud waiting for the car. Not exactly what I had planned but I wouldn't have changed it for the world. At 10:20 am on Sunday, July 10, 1977 my daughter Jessica Ann MacAulay Lacasse was born. And every year after her birth we always celebrated her birthday at the Stampede Grounds.

The Calgary Stampede has been and always will be a huge part of our lives.
