Passing on the Memories
Calgary Stampede staff met Pat (Reardon) Schlenker at the Calgary Stampede White Hat Round Up in Medicine Hat, Alberta on April 21, 2012, where she arrived in her western finery, with a family photo and her Stampede story.
She was wearing a leather coat that was her mother’s, who is now 90 years old. The coat had been a gift to her mother from her father for the occasion of travelling from Saskatchewan to the Calgary Stampede back in 1957. The photo shows her family and friends waiting for the Stampede Parade. Her mother is wearing the coat. 55 years later, with the coat restored and looking fine, Pat was able to share her family history and once again celebrate with the Calgary Stampede.
