In 1966, when I was in my teens, there was a bit of a lull in the parade and we were all sitting quietly - and then...
there came an open car along the parade route with a young man. He had such a shock of hair on his head and no one seemed to know who he was...and my mother, who was sitting behind me, recognized him immediately and...shouted out -
HOWDY SENATOR! - WELCOME TO CALGARY!
and Robert Kennedy turned his head, smiled that big Kennedy smil and said to my mum, "Thank you, ma'am!" He and his lovely wife Ether both gave us a big wave.
I WILL NEVER FORGET THAT DAY.
